System requirements

What you need. No drama.

Tomic Lightings is written lean — it runs even on a 5-year-old ThinkPad. Let's look at the specifics.

Minimum Enough for a regular club

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer) · Windows 11
  • Processor: 2 cores, 1.5 GHz (anything from the last ~10 years)
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Disk: 200 MB of free space
  • Graphics: integrated graphics (Intel HD / AMD APU is fine)
  • USB: 1× free USB port (for the DMX interface)
  • .NET 8 Runtime (bundled with the installer, or installed from Microsoft)
  • Network: any Ethernet / Wi‑Fi (for ArtNet, MIDI/OSC over network)

Recommended For festivals and bigger rigs

  • OS: Windows 11 (up to date)
  • Processor: 4+ cores, 2.0 GHz and up
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Disk: SSD (faster startup, smoother backups)
  • Network: wired 1 Gbit Ethernet for ArtNet (Wi‑Fi isn't reliable)
  • A second monitor — the stage plan or the cue library on the side screen
  • An external keyboard / numeric keypad (faster operation)

For visualization Running a visualizer

A visualizer (Capture, for instance) is a separate application with requirements of its own. If you want to run it on the same computer alongside Tomic, plan for this on top:

  • A discrete graphics card (NVIDIA or AMD) supporting OpenGL 3.3 or newer
  • Memory: 16 GB of RAM — the visualizer has a substantial appetite of its own
  • Processor: six or more cores clocked at 3 GHz and up
  • The better setup: a dedicated second computer for the visualizer, linked to the console over Art-Net

Hardware for Tomic

What you can plug into the output and input. None of this hardware is mandatory — Tomic also runs standalone into the Capture visualizer.

DMX output — USB

Enttec DMX USB Pro (original or an OEM clone). Price roughly €15 – €60. Plug‑and‑play.

Less recommended: Open DMX USB (cheaper, but there's no "pro mode" — moving head movement can stutter at times).

DMX output — ArtNet

Any node with ArtNet support. Eurolite Net‑DMX, Showtec NetBridge, Wireless‑DMX, SwissonXND — from roughly €60. sACN (E1.31) support is on the way.

MIDI controllers

Akai LPD8 / MPK Mini, Korg nanoKONTROL2, Behringer X‑Touch / X‑Touch Mini, Novation Launchkey. Plug‑and‑play over USB MIDI.

OSC devices Full

TouchOSC (iPad/Android, ~€6), any OSC app, Lemur, Max/MSP, your own web app. Communication over Wi‑Fi. OSC input is part of the Full version.

LTC + MTC timecode Full

Any audio input (sound card, USB interface) — an LTC/SMPTE signal from a DAW, a recording or a generator. L/R channel selection, fps auto-detected. MTC works over any USB MIDI port. Both are part of the Full version.

Visualizer (optional)

Capture Atlas / Symphonic (Capture Visualiser) or any visualizer with an ArtNet input. Tomic sends the stream, the visualizer receives it.
